Happy New Year 2014!  Greetings everyone!

Welcome to my blog!  I know it’s a little late in the month for New Year wishes, but we are still in January!   Indeed, it’s a new year and it is usually a time when people reflect on the past year and hope for more and better things for the one to come.  I’m not too keen on resolutions, however, I went through a lot in 2013 and I’ve decided that the best way to live my life is to live NOW!  I don’t remember where I’ve heard or read this, but the word “now” is also an acronym for No Opportunity Wasted !

For me, to live “now” essentially means to not let life pass me by.  I think living in the moment heals past wounds and prepares us the future.  Starting fresh is not exclusive to the New Year, every day can be a fresh start, every moment can be a fresh start.  There are no failures, only lessons to be learned!  I have a tendency to be passive-aggressive (I see you rolling  your eyes at me!).   Being passive may be fine for the things on which I have no control over.  However, in some instances, it is better to grab life ahead and make things happen!  If you want to lose weight (don’t we all!), it’s not going to happen while you’re watching  “the Biggest Loser” eating ice cream every day!  You have to get moving and do the work, and if at first you don’t succeed, try and try again!

I believe happiness is a choice and I choose to create my own opportunities, instead of waiting for them to happen .  This year, let’s do the things that make us happy!  Now, I don’t mean slashing your ex-boyfriend’s tires!  I mean constructive deeds that will make us blossom, I mean self-accomplishments and self-nurturing acts.  This is where the creation of my own blog comes in.  It has been a loooonnng time coming!  I’ve secretly dreamed of it.  I would read  magazines and  beauty blogs,  and I’d  think:  “Wow, I wish I could do that, I wish I had her job, I wish…”  Well, I stopped wishing and I acted…  and here it is!  This blog combines three of my passions (among others): communicating or connecting with others, writing and beauty.

What to expect when reading  Ready, Set, Glow!

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been passionate about beauty, fashion and art.  This blog will mainly focus on green beauty, as I have recently turned away from conventional beauty products in favor of more natural, organic and non toxic products.  I choose this path for health reasons as well as ecological and ethical reasons, so it resonates in different aspects of my life.

What about you?  What do you think? What are your thoughts on “natural” beauty?  Is such a thing possible?  Can real beauty be “natural” nowadays, in our society?  The answers to these questions all depend on your personal experiences, views and perspectives on the matter.  There are several myths concerning “natural” beauty products, and I did have a few of my own, until I realized how much toxic ingredients are present in our personal care, hair care, skincare and cosmetics.  I was baffled to learn that the very products I was using to improve my skin were doing the opposite…and worse were affecting my general health in ways I had never imagined!  What about the tests done on animals? Animal cruelty for the sake of a BB cream? And since when do rabbits wear mascara or lipstick?  Can we really justify testing cosmetics on defenseless animals?  And what of the damaging effects on our planet?  I used to disregard these issues, thinking there was nothing I could do about it, thinking it wasn’t my role or my place.  Well, my views have changed so much now, and I will share them with you on this blog.

I now use non toxic products ( in beauty and in other areas) for reasons that far exceed my own vanity.  Let’s be honest here, I do care about how I look.  Yes,  I want to wear makeup and, yes I want voluminous and shiny hair, but I wish to do it responsibly, with regards towards my health and the environment.  Using non toxic products has become part of my lifestyle and my personal convictions.  So, as well as reviews on green beauty products, you can expect some posts on fashion, social issues close to my heart,  literature, music and movies.   So, in essence this is as much a blog on lifestyle as it is on green beauty.

I don’t believe in “standards” when it comes to beauty, rather, I think it’s a state of mind:  when you feel beautiful, you are!  Every single one of us is beautiful, YOU are beautiful as you are (and your flaws make you perfect) !  Look around you, beauty IS everywhere, in everyone, you just have to look for it.

Why the name: “Ready, Set, Glow” ?

Well, I’m sure you’ve all heard the expression “ready, set, go!”.  In general, it means “on your marks” and it is mostly used in a race context.  For me, life is NOT a race, it is a journey.  However, just like in a race, in life we have obstacles and we have to be ready to handle what is ahead of us and the several curve balls life throws at us; I believe we can do it while choosing to “glow” from the heart, from the inside out, because true beauty comes from within.  Also, every woman wants to have skin that radiates, skin that glows, right?!  There you have it!

Please, join me as I explore my passions and share my discoveries with you.  This is a new endeavor for me and I’m still learning the ABC’s of blogging, so feel free to voice your comments, suggestions and concerns. So, get in with me… Ready?  Set…and …  let’s Glow!

Until next time,

Arabesque : )
